Couples Therapy for New & Expectant Parents

Couples Therapy in Denver, Colorado

Support for Relationships During Pregnancy & Early Parenthood

Bringing a child into your life is transformative — and it can also be deeply destabilizing for a relationship.

If you’re searching for couples therapy in Denver, you may be preparing for parenthood and wanting to feel aligned before your baby arrives. Or you may already be in the thick of early parenthood — exhausted and wondering why this feels harder on your relationship than you expected.

The transition to parenthood is one of the most significant predictors of relationship strain. Sleep deprivation, identity shifts, unequal mental load, changing intimacy, and differing expectations can surface quickly — even in strong, loving partnerships. Couples therapy offers a space to slow down, reconnect, and build a foundation that supports both your relationship and your growing family.

Couples therapy for parents

You may be navigating:

  • Anxiety about becoming parents

  • Different expectations about roles or responsibilities

  • Financial stress

  • Fear about how your relationship will change or has changed

  • Asking - Will we ever go back to the "us" that was before?

  • Concerns about intimacy after birth

  • Communication breakdowns during pregnancy

In therapy, we can:

  • Clarify shared values for parenting and your relationship

  • Discuss division of labor and mental load

  • Strengthen communication skills

  • Explore identity shifts within your relationship

Couples who intentionally prepare for the transition to parenthood often experience greater resilience during the postpartum period.

If you’re already parents, you may be noticing:

  • Increased conflict or irritability

  • Feeling like roommates instead of partners

  • Resentment around sleep or caregiving roles

  • Decreased intimacy

  • Difficulty finding time to connect

  • One partner feeling overwhelmed while the other feels shut out

Early parenthood can amplify old patterns. It can also create entirely new ones. You may both be trying your best — and still missing each other.

Therapy provides a space to:

  • Slow reactive cycles

  • Improve emotional communication

  • Address resentment before it hardens

  • Rebuild intimacy

  • Navigate unequal mental load

  • Support both partners’ mental health

The goal is not to assign blame. It is to strengthen connection.

My Approach to Couples Therapy

I specialize in supporting couples preparing for parenthood and navigating early parenthood challenges.

In our work together, I integrate:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to identify underlying emotions, relational cycles and to foster deeper understanding

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) to understand protective patterns and reactive parts

  • Trauma-informed approaches when birth trauma or past experiences are impacting your relationship

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to explore values and foster mindfulness and nervous system regulation

My style is collaborative and nonjudgmental. I work to ensure both partners feel heard and supported.

You don’t need to wait until things feel unmanageable to seek support. Couples therapy can be preventative, strengthening your foundation before resentment builds.

If you are looking for couples therapy in Denver, Colorado to prepare for parenthood or reconnect after having a baby, I would be honored to support you.

*Please note, I am unable to accept insurance for couples sessions. These are self-pay only as the relationship is the client (vs. an individual), which complicates insurance billing.
